Clifford B Morcom DVM - practice owner, Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Dr. Clifford Morcom grew up in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. As a high school student he worked at Mammoth Park and Atlantic City as a hot walker. Here Dr. Morcom found his profound appreciation for the racehorses. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelors of science majoring in Animal Husbandry. He received a Masters from Michigan State University in Reproductive Endocrinology and graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. After graduation he worked as a track veterinarian at Monticello raceway in New York. In 1984 he moved to Massachusetts and worked along side Fred Hess in Amherst. In 1986, he purchased the land and house that would (with many revisions) become the Mill Valley Veterinary Clinic. During the intervening years he purchased his first Standardbred broodmare, help raise three children and continued to serve the Pioneer Valley as a mixed animal veterinarian. Over the years the clinic has grown from a one doctor mixed animal practice into a four-doctor practice that constantly strives to bring the newest technology and innovations to our clients. Dr. Morcom lives in Belchertown with his wife Celeste and two golden retrievers, one Jack Russell mix, a reclusive cat and a few “retired” standardbred horses.
Helen Spiegel DVM - Associate Veterinarian, Small animal, Acupuncture
Helen Spiegel DVM grew up in rural New Jersey, where her family had a small menagerie of animals including horses, poultry, dogs and cats. Dr. Spiegel attended Tufts University and graduated with a bachelors of science having majored in biology. She then went on to attend the University of Illinois School of Veterinary Medicine, and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Dr. Spiegel practiced in the New York City Metropolitan area before moving to New England in 2011 with her family. Dr. Spiegel enjoys working on all small animals but she has a special passion for surgery, acupuncture and geriatric medicine (senior citizen pets). Dr. Spiegel is a member in good standing of the AVMA.
Nicole Rapa DVM - Associate Veterinarian, Mixed animal
- Nicole Rapa D.V.M, grew up in Springfield, MA. She grew up with many family pets and this only fueled her dream of becoming a veterinarian to work with small animals. Dr. Rapa was accepted to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she developed a passion for working with large animals as well. She graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Veterinary Sciences and a Minor in Biology. Following graduation, she worked part time as a teaching assistant with the North American Camelid Studies Program in Belchertown and part-time as a personal care worker for people with physical and mental disabilities. In 2014, Dr. Rapa was accepted to the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2018. During her studies she continued to work with small and large animals. She became a histology tutor for fellow classmates in the college and went on to become a Co-Manager of the Veterinary Student Resource Center. Dr. Rapa is a member in good standing of the AVMA. Dr. Rapa is interested in preventative medicine, small animal wellness, large animal reproduction and equine dentistry. Though she recently graduated from school, she has experience with reproductive ultrasound and palpation as well as small animal spay and neuter procedures. Additionally, she is very passionate about working with alpacas, llamas and donkeys due to her amazing experiences during her undergraduate career and a trip to Peru. Dr. Rapa enjoys exploring New England, spending time with family and cuddling with her rescue dog Bailey.
Jesse Sugrue DVM - Associate Veterinarian, Mixed Animal, Acupuncture.
Jesse Sugrue DVM is a native to the Western Massachusetts region. As a child, she was an active member of the Swift River Pony Club. Jesse attended and graduated from Mount Holyoke College, in South Hadley Massachusetts. At Mount Holyoke College, she split her non-academic time between the equestrian center and the soccer fields. In 2010 she received a Bachelors of Science from Mount Holyoke College, where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry. After graduation, Jesse moved down to Virginia. Jesse worked at the Veterinary teaching hospital of the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. At the teaching hospital she worked in both the ophthalmology department and in the small animal intensive care unit. She attended this veterinary school and received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Dr. Sugrue is a member in good standing of the AVMA. Dr. Sugrue has a strong interest in working with both large and small animals and has a special interest in equine podiatry (horse foot-care). In her spare time, she can be found enjoying one of her many outdoor hobbies. She enjoys trail running with her “two perfect pups” Diezel and Mac, working with one of her three horses or taking it easy working in her ever-expanding garden.
