Mill Valley Veterinary Clinic
Laser therapy is used to reduce inflammation. The laser uses high energy waves to penetrate deep into tissues, which relaxes the tissues and encourages blood flow to the area. This in turn makes it easier for pets to stand, climb stairs and can speed healing at surgery sites. With routine treatments some pets can be taken off medications completely. Laser therapy can be used in the treatment of arthritis, lick granulomas, ear infections and to speed post surgical recovery. The best part is there are no adverse effects of the laser therapy. Your pet can be more comfortable without risking the liver and kidney damage that can accompany long term use of non steroidal anti-inflammatories (aka pain medication). The only safety precautions are the dark protective glasses that are worn by pets and people to protect against accidental direct laser-eye contact. The treatment lasts 15 minutes and you can be with your pet the entire time!
